Us cat parents love our little fluffy chaos gremlins. Yes, it can appear that we adopt them, but let’s face reality… they adopt us and we love them for it.

Last year in August, three little fluffy babies came into our life and it has been a wonderful disruption for us.

It all started in the morning as I was leaving for work, the cat distribution system had all 3 of them cross our path as I was going out to my car that morning. We took pictures, but my husband told me to let them be as we weren’t ready for kitties in our apartment yet. However, while I was at work, my husband sent pictures of the two brothers that were hanging out on our porch. Then, at the end of my shift, I get a text saying, “Meet our new roommates.”

My husband had caved and brought the boys in. What got him was when they were drinking out of a random puddle in front of our apartment door. So, we began our lives at cat parents. I bought food, litter, and all the other potential essentials on the way home. We gave them a quick bath to check for fleas and get the dirt off. However, the cat distribution system wasn’t done with us yet. A couple hours after the boys were brought inside, their sister sat outside our apartment door meowing until my husband opened it. She then walked in like she already owned the place and we’ve had a happy family ever since.

I was raised with cats, but we never had more than 1 kitten at a time. There was always at least one adult cat to keep it in check. Not having that adult cat with three rowdy kittens turned out to be very tiring the first few weeks. They were only 7 weeks old at the time, so required regular feeding of wet food. I was woken up quite often for playtime as well. They all wanted snuggles, which for me was the best part.

The first few months were trying. One had to have an emergency visit to the vet and another got black listed from the local Humane Society. We sent them there to get them fixed and when we sent him back again for the microchip, he was quite angry with the staff and was very hissy with them. We have since found a better vet that all three of them like seeing… well at least they are calmer when visiting, lol. The treats help.

As they grew up, we started seeing their personality traits coming through. Natasha became the sweet one who can charm anyone with her kitten-like features. Khonsu became a mischievous little thief who loves mouse toys and ping pong balls. Shang-Chi is a little timid, but became the curious one who loves his pipe cleaner like cat toys and playing with objects he’s not supposed to (like metal rods or pens and pencils). They also became sweet little cuddlers too. Although, if you ask my husband, he’s playfully annoyed that Shang-Chi continuously steals his regular seats throughout the apartment.

Their first year brought quite a few funny memories. I think the best one that comes to mind is when I was woken up by an angry Khonsu. Once I was awake, he proceeded to meow at me like he was explaining himself. When I asked what happened, my husband answered that he had taken away an unsafe object for him to play with. This kitty literally woke me up to complain about cat dad taking away his toy. Then there was the time Shang-Chi decided a paper grocery bag we brought back was his new kitty home. While curled up in there, we walked away and came back to find his sister laying on top of the bag, keeping it closed, with him “trapped” in there. Then there is the territorial behavior with boxes that are brought home. It’s why we now keep multiple boxes and paper bags around the apartment.

Since these adorable little fiends came into our life, it’s been wonderful. I forgot how nice it was having cats around the apartment. We learned to have patience with them and how to mostly cat-proof an apartment. They truly have brought so much joy and chaotic energy into our lives.

More stories about their antics will be posted here in the future. Hope you return to read them. Until then, safe exploring everyone!
